Rip's Tips
Back Up Next

So What Do I Know? Well not everything, certainly, but I watch learn and try and improve my sales techniques every time I look at my sites.

My best tip... track where your surfers go and keep on improving that area of your websites, You may like cute chubby teens in lingerie, but if your surfers don't go to that part of your website, you are wasting time in a low profit area!

***Try this place a gallery of ten pics with thumbs up leading to full sized pics on html pages. place separate counters on each pic page and see where the traffic goes. That is the simplest form of tracking surfers

There are lots of sites which helped me get started, but what's covered here are some special tips just from me. They will help you make money, and help you make more money if you are already making money. Or help you avoid going two months without any money when you first get started.

First I don't pretend to know everything, I'm still learning every day. If you think you do know everything, it's too late, 'cause you won't learn anything new will you?

1. This is not mine, but one from another webmaster at p/c. Put your best paying banner and most reliable sponsor at the top of the page.

2. Be honest, in the long run it will get you further, If you cheat sponsors, surfers or others it will catch up with you. If you don't cheat surfers, then they will bookmark and come back to your site.

3. Have fun, if you take it too seriously, you won't enjoy what is a pretty dynamic and profitable business.

The meat;

4. Read the rules carefully, then after you get things up and running, go back and read them again. If in doubt email the sponsor or site you are dealing with, if they are good, they will not shaft you.

5. Get an AVS, it is a good way for new webmasters with low traffic to put some cash in your pocket.

6. Don't use the same AVS as everyone else.

7. Start with some click thru(s)  and add some pay per sign up partnerships as your site grows. Watch for the ratios though, many click thru(s) will bump you if you have lousy traffic... especially hidden ratios.

8. Don't blind link too much if you would like your visitors to come back.

9. Do a good front door to your site. This is often ignored and is worth a little time spent.

10. Rotate your banners, especially on your high traffic pages

11. Keep a similar theme throughout your site. It makes the surfer feel comfortable and they are more likely to scroll down the pages, instead of clicking the top banner (unless you want them to!) (unless you want the surfer to realize that they have gone somewhere else)

12. Give your site the personal touch. You have a taste in porn, if you are here. Cater to that taste in your sites, it will make it more fun, and you will naturally be better at it. That need not stop you from doing a gay site, if you want to add one and you are not gay for example. But if you like Asian women... start there first.

13. Change banners and sponsors as the surfer ventures deeper into your site... get that "there's something different!" click

14. Plan for the unexpected and expected. What are you gonna do if your site goes down? What are you going to do if your sponsor doesn't pay?

15. Spread it around. Don't rely on one sponsor, don't rely on one anything, always have a back-up plan. What would you do, for example if your main sponsor was involved in litigation and could not pay you? They could be the best sponsor in the world... and you could be up the creek without a paddle.

16. Set aside a little time each day or couple days for promoting your site.

17. Get your own licensed content. As the first profits roll in put them into a content CD.

18. Don't use the exactly the same sponsor as your source of traffic. If your traffic sources all had banners flying for xyzPorn fpa's and the like, what do your think your incoming (surfers) customers have already seen? They just came from a site with xyzPorn advertised. Do you think you might do a little better with something different?

19. Have a look at the preview sections of the sponsor sites you are promoting. Look for some ideas there.

20. Try something new. It might work, it might not, just try it and see what happens.

21. Watch where your traffic goes. You may have a really great looking section of your website, but if surfers aren't going there spend your time developing what they like.

22. Don't use consoles. Especially consoles that open into an exit console farm most surfers don't like them. If you must use one... allow the window to be closed by the surfer without having an explosion of multiple windows. Many click thru-s will not allow them on pages which host their banners so watch out.

23. Pre sell your clicks especially if you have a pay per sign up sponsor. If the surfer is "almost" ready to buy a membership before they leave your site by clicking on a banner, then better for you, because they are more likely to buy. If they are not ready, then they will stay at your site and click on something else that you are selling.

24. Get your own sponsors. If you have the exact same sponsors as everyone else or exactly the same banners, then chances are the surfer has seen them already and they will not make you any money. Imagine that you have a great link from Joe. Joe has all the exact same sponsors as you. Do you think the surfers are going to want to click on anything?

25. Once you get going build a relationship with your sponsors. If you have an idea on how to sell there program better, give it a shot.

26. Don't bulk email, it will catch up with you, this applies to mass posting on newsgroups as well. Most sites and sponsors will not tolerate it.

27. If you have returning surfers or plan on it, keep the site content fresh.

28. Watch for new things. The net changes every day, there may be something really hot just around the corner, who knows you might discover it!

29. Do not over use your own email address. It's very difficult to get rid of Spam if it starts. Plus if you have a remote web hosted email, there is a slight buffer between you and the next virus.

30. Watch for high paying click thrus, they either have an unachievable ratio to maintain or some catch. Ask other webmasters if in doubt.

31. Back up Back up Back up. Always back up your files regularly. This will help if your hard drive gets fragged or your computer get a virus or something else.

32. Check the tax laws in your area. Once the money starts to roll in put aside some for the tax man.

33. Watch the offshore banking unless you live there. There is a tax agreement between Canada and the US. If you receive income from either country it will not be protected in an offshore bank. Or at least not once they catch you (I checked this out.)

34. If you get a good search engine ranking be prepared to defend it (except for yahoo and directories.) People copy them and then resubmit under a their own website.

35. If you are into search engines go here and read and ask. Do not post the URLs of adult sites here it is not allowed Search Engine Forum.

36. Please report child pornography, HERE the less of this stuff that's around the better.
